Chameleon wins CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming
January 22, 2007 - The Chameleon Arts Ensemble has
been honored with a 2007 CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming
in the Chamber Ensembles - Mixed Repertory category. Chameleon's
Artistic Director Deborah Boldin received the award on Saturday,
January 13 at the annual Chamber Music America conference
in New York. "I'm thrilled that our programming philosophy
and achievements are being recognized at the national level,"
says Boldin. "I think that it's also a great tribute
to our audience, which is always so supportive and intensely
interested in the new music we present."
The CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming are presented
annually to ensembles, presenters, and festivals demonstrating
a commitment to contemporary chamber music programming. Emphasis
is given to performances of music written after 1980. Chamber
Music America (CMA), the national service organization for
the ensemble music profession, was founded in 1977 to promote
artistic excellence and the economic stability of the field,
and to ensure that chamber music, in its broadest sense, is
a vital part of American life. The American Society of Composers,
Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a membership organization
of over 250,000 composers, songwriters, and publishers of
every music genre. Founded in 1914, ASCAP is the only U.S.
performing rights organization created and governed by its
composer, songwriter, and publisher members.
Now in its ninth season of programming, the Chameleon Arts
Ensemble has distinguished itself as one of the finest and
most versatile chamber ensembles in Boston. To date, Chameleon
has produced more than 50 concerts, performing nearly 200
different works by 110 different composers, having earned
a reputation for innovative programming as well as praise
for "
another evening of smart, zealous music-making
by the young and ambitious Chameleon Arts Ensemble, took its
auditors on an amazing journey." (The Boston Globe).
The name Chameleon derives from this very versatility - a
key element of its mission - to perform a wide range of repertoire,
from the Classical to the most contemporary, from the best-known
standards to brand-new and lesser-known works. This programming
stance and the distinctive thematic concepts that tie the
programs together have earned Chameleon a unique place among
Boston's chamber music ensembles and attracted audiences who
love not just contemporary music, or the standard chamber
music repertoire, but who come to hear a diverse and balanced
program of music in a satisfying and enriching evening. "The
Chameleon Arts Ensemble has found a loyal audience through
its fanciful programs and superb playing." - Chamber
Music Magazine.
